Minimally Invasive Laparoscopic (Keyhole) Surgery
What is Minimally Invasive Surgery?
Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) allows your surgeon to access the inside of your body without the need for invasive approaches which provides many benefits to the patients. Laparoscopic Surgery is a minimally invasive procedure of carrying out an operation without having to make a large incision. This procedure is also known as Keyhole Surgery.
Some minimally invasive surgery is done with a robotic-assisted laparoscopy technique that allows precise control over the surgery. This is also referred to as Robotic Surgery.
What are the Benefits of Laparoscopic Surgery?
Unlike traditional open surgery, laparoscopic surgery involves small incisions of around 1 to 2cm, usually near your belly button. The procedure is done with the aid of a laparoscope - a thin long rod with a camera and a tiny light mounted at its end to enable the surgeon to visualise the inside of your abdomen. With the advancement in medical technology, laparoscopic surgery is proven to maximise benefits compared to open surgery.
